Our Story
At Matric Rewrite Academy South Africa, we understand that behind every result is a story and behind every student is potential waiting to be unlocked.
For over 43 years, Roelf van Dyk dedicated his life to education, guiding learners through both success and setbacks. Alongside him, Sonja van Dyk has spent years supporting students, helping them rebuild confidence and believe in their abilities.
Together, they recognised a need a place where students who did not succeed the first time could be given another opportunity.
For the past 15 years, Matric Rewrite Academy South Africa has supported students in rewriting matric, improving marks, and rebuilding confidence.
This academy is more than just a place of learning it is a place of hope, resilience, and new beginnings.
Leadership & Team
Roelf van Dyk (CEO and Director)
after 43 years a retired school principal, dedicated his life to education, with qualifications including M.B.A, B.Ed Hons, and BA. Ed and THED, he spent nearly five decades leading schools, mentoring teachers, and guiding generations of students through both success and struggle. He witnessed the joy of achievement — but he also saw the quiet disappointment of learners who believed one set of results defined their entire future.
Sonja van Dyk (Director of Marketing and Social Development)
Dedicated educator with a B.Ed degree and 12 years of experience, passionate about student development and confidence building.
Director: Academic and Exam Manager
Edith Zibi is a qualified educator in Accounting and Economics with extensive teaching experience. She previously served as Head of Department (HOD) for Economics, where she provided academic leadership and supported learners in achieving excellent results. She is committed to helping students succeed through dedication, guidance, and quality education.
She currently serves as the Academic Manager at Matric Rewrite Academy South Africa, where she is responsible for overseeing the academic programme, supporting educators, monitoring student progress, and ensuring that the academy maintains high standards of teaching and learning. Her leadership helps create a structured and supportive environment where students are given a true second chance to succeed.
Director: External Affairs
Dr, Petrus Vermaak is an experienced educator with a long and distinguished career in teaching and educational development. His work in education spans more than four decades and includes teaching, leadership roles and international experience.
Mr. Vermaak completed his schooling at Newton Primary School and Pearson High School in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. He continued his studies at the University of Port Elizabeth (UPE) and later pursued postgraduate studies at Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education (PU for CHE).
He began his teaching career in 1977 with his first appointment at De Grendel High School in Milnerton, Cape Town. In 1986, he joined Prieska High School, where he continued contributing to the development of learners and the school community.
From 2001 to 2007, Mr. Vermaak worked internationally at Sawston Village College in Cambridge, United Kingdom, where he served as Head of Department for Resistant Materials. During this time, he also collaborated with St. John’s College at Cambridge University, contributing to the development and training of teachers in technical education.
In 2007, he returned to South Africa and joined J.J. Dreyer Primary School in Prieska, where he continued teaching and mentoring students until his retirement in October 2019.
Throughout his career, Petrus Vermaak has been committed to quality education, teacher development, and the growth of young learners. His dedication to teaching and learning has made a lasting impact on the schools and communities he has served.
Director: HR and Public Relations Officer
Donne Lee is a dedicated Social Developer with a strong academic foundation and demonstrated experience in designing and implementing sustainable social impact initiatives. She holds a Degree in Bachelor of Social Sciences in Development Studies from NMU, where her academic focus included community development, social policy, and participatory research methodologies. She has further strengthened her expertise through additional certifications in Project Management, Monitoring & Evaluation, Community Facilitation, or Social Impact Assessment.
In her role at Matric Rewrite Academy South Africa, Donne leads strategic social development initiatives that align community needs with organizational objectives. Her work integrates evidence-based approaches, stakeholder collaboration, and measurable outcomes.
